Summary, etc. Abstract: <br/><br/>Background: Acute upper gastrointestinal is a significant worldwide medical problem. Despite modern measures for diagnosis and treatment morbidity and mortality rates associated with gastrointestinal bleeding remain largely unchanged. Aggressive medical resuscitation while initiating an evaluation to localize the site of blood loss remains the key to successful management of acute upper gastroenterologist surgeon and radiologist can be extremely helpful in the management of these patients. <br/><br/>Objective: The main objective of this study was to determining the in-hospital clinical end-points of conservative management of upper gastrointestinal bleeding at Sengerema district hospital. A retrospective study was conducted with the estimated sample size of 160. <br/><br/>Results: From this study, 160 patients were enrolled from Sengerema district hospital. The mean age of the study population was 42, with an equal sex ratio. Most of them came from rural areas (80.63%) and were peasants (65.63%). The majority of patients presented with hematemesis 91%, followed by melena 64%, ascites 40% anemia 39% and splenomegaly 27%, epigastric tenderness was noted in some patients too. The re-bleeding rate in this study was found to be 31.47%, the referral cases were, for endoscopy 9.38% and surgical intervention 2.5%. The mortality rate was 10.63%. Blood transmission requirement for this study was maximum of 49.38% who had a transfusion of two units. In this study was associated comorbidities such as liver failure and SBP. 11.33% respectively, didn’t have an association to the rate of mortality. <br/><br/>Conclusion: This study revealed that the rate of mortality is 10.63%, and this was associated with the presentation at the hospital with clinical features of anemia, together with a low level of hemoglobin. <br/><br/>
