Summary, etc. Abstract:<br/><br/>Background: Amputation is the surgical of a limb or body part such as arm, leg, hand, foot finger or toe. It is performed to remove diseased tissue or relieve pain. There are many patients who have been amputated it is good to know whether the rate is increasing or reducing and the reason. The knowledge of rates, causes, and complications is important for the decision making in controlling all factors associating with amputation.<br/><br/><br/>Methods: the study was a hospital based retrospectives cross sectional involved all patients who were amputated in January 2013 to July 2014 at BMC. A total number of 77 patients were included, considering age gender, type of amputation and chronic disease, reason for amputation, prognosis and complication.<br/><br/>Results: there was 77 patients amputated from January 2013 to July 2014, male outnumbered the female (male 46 which is 59% while female were 31 which is 40%) by ratio of 1.5:1. The number of amputated patients increases with age where by there are 48 amputated patients who are above or equal to 50 years old which is 62%. Diabetic foot is 26%, the leading indications of amputation were blockage of blood supply 34 patients which is 44.2% then ascending ulcer 41.2% then severe pain 7.8%. above knee amputation and below knee amputations were the major types of amputation done 32 patients which is 41.6% and 26 patients which is 33.8% respectively, 4% of the amputated patients has poor prognosis, 6.5%developed sepsis.<br/><br/><br/>Conclusion: the research determined that 77 patients were amputated in BMC from January 2013 to July 2014. The leading causes amputation were the diabetics foot, bone cancer, trauma, and dry gangrene. The major indications of amputations were ascending ulcers, severe pain, blockage of blood supply, loss of sensation and progressively abnormal enlargement of a bone. The most common complications of amputation were infections of the stump and recurrence.<br/>
