| Summary, etc. | Abstract:<br/><br/>Background: Lymphoma is a general term for a group of cancer that originates in the lymphatic system. Due to current advances in lymphoma treatment, the overall survival rates for children with lymphoma has increased. However in Africa there is little information regarding the disease.<br/><br/>Methodology: A retrospective cross sectional hospital bases study was conducted in Oncology unit, BMC, Tanzania. From January 2012 to December 2017. The study included 108 patients’ files from 0-12 years of age that were selected by consecutive sampling method. Data was filled and analysed by STATA 13 and then recorded based on check list.<br/><br/>Results and Discussion: Average age of participants was 4 years. CHOP and MCV regimens are highly used in the treatment of NHL while in HL, ABVD regimen is the only one used. 84 (78%) were alive, 16 (15%) deceased all during treatment and 8 (7%) was unknown. These regimens are similar to WHO while the outcomes is poor comparing to developing countries.<br/><br/>Conclusion and Recommendation: CHOP and MCV regimens are kindly used in the treatment of NHL while HL ABVD regimen is the only one used. In Africa the complete response in childhood lymphoma is at lower rate of 14%. The government should train and hence increase oncologic workforce with the skills to tailor treatment specifically to children.<br/> |
