Summary, etc. Abstract: <br/><br/>Background: Preconception early pregnancy use of folic acid reduces occurrence of neural tube defect. Despite of the government effort to supply FA to prevent NTDs and anemia to pregnant women at ANC, it was not known if pregnant women were aware on the use of folic acid supplements. <br/><br/>Method used: The study was a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted in May 2017 and involved all pregnant women who are attending ANC at Nyamagana district hospital. <br/><br/>Results: This study enrolled 219 pregnant women, where by only 88 (40.18%) have ever used it and 131 (59.82%) have used It. The awareness on which disease can be prevented by use of folic acid, only 10.74% were aware that folic acid can prevent neural tube defect, 55.3% were aware that folic acid can prevent anemia while 10.74% were aware that folic acid can prevent both anemia and neural tube defect and 23.14% didn’t know exactly the disease which can prevented by preconception and early pregnancy use of folic acid. <br/><br/>Conclusion: The level of awareness and prevalence of use of folic acid preconception and in early pregnancy for prevention of neural tube defect is low among pregnant women attending Nyamagana district hospital. <br/>
