Summary, etc. NTRODUCTION: Early, efficient and inexpensive methods for detection of pulmonary tuberculosis are urgently needed for effective patient management and to interrupt tuberculosis transmission. These methods to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a timely and affordable way are not yet available in resource-limited settings. In an operational setting, we prospectively evaluated the performance of the microscopic observation drug susceptibility(MODS) assay for culture detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum with Louwenstein-Jensen(LJ) culture method as a gold standard and systemically reviewed literature on Epidemiology and Genetic Diversity of Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis in East Africa.< bolditalic> MANUSCRIPT I: Early and Efficient Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Sputum by Microscopic Observation of Broth Cultures.
