| Summary, etc. | Abstract:<br/><br/>Background: The growing use of contraception methods around the world has given couples the possibility to choose the number and spacing of their children. Despite the impressive gains, contraceptive use is still low while the need for contraception is high in some of the world’s poorest and most populous places. Little is known on the factors contributing to low level of utilization of contraceptives in Rorya district, particularly among married individuals where the prevalence of contraceptive use was found to be only 28%. Therefore, this study aimed at understanding perceived usefulness of contraceptive methods among couple in Rorya district.<br/><br/>Methods: A qualitative design with a phenomenological approach was used. Six Focus Group Discussion and 6 In-depth Interview was conducted among married individuals as the key informants to understand on the perception on use of contraceptive in Rorya District.<br/><br/>Results: Respondents reported factors such as reducing pregnancies, health management, polygamy practices, community perception, and accessibility of contraceptive methods, Confidentiality, Misconception about Family Planning (Myth), and Attitude on sexual reproductive health, Religious beliefs, Accessibilities of Family Planning supplies and Partners consent.<br/><br/>Conclusion: The communities have been made to believe negatively towards the contraceptive use especially on the myths. People perceive contraceptive as the barriers which continues to increase the fertility rate. However, as unmet needs is still increasing in Rorya district, there should be interventions.<br/> |
