Background :

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide with hypertension being a major risk factor for developing CVD. CVD incidence almost doubled from 271 million from 1990 to 523 million in 2019[1] and CVD deaths increased constantly from 12.1 million from 1990 to 18.6 million in 2019, accounting for 32% of all deaths worldwide [2].

In Africa; particularly in sub–Saharan African countries CVDs are the most frequent causes of non-communicable disease (NCD) deaths, which account for approximately 13% of all deaths and 37%of all non-communicable disease deaths [3].

Tanzania just like other Sub-Saharan countries is experiencing burden of cardiovascular diseases whereby cardiovascular disease alone contributes about 13% of all death due to non-communicable disease (NCD) [4].

Risk factors of developing cardiovascular diseases among hypertensive patients may be divided into three groups which are modifiable non modifiable and intermediate risk factors. Whereby the modifiable risk factors include unhealthy diet, physical in activity, tobacco use and alcohol use. Non modifiable risk factors include age sex or gender, family history or genetics and race [5]. Intermediate risk factors include overweight and obesity, high cholesterol level and diabetes [2].
The main aim of management of risk factors in hypertensive patients is to prevent the CVD event
