Abstract;
Background: the right knowledge and current practises on malaria prevention among parents and also proper treatment .This can be achieved through proper treatment and practises on the prevention of malaria . In Mwanza region there is no research conducted concerning predictors of knowledge toward current practices on malaria prevention, hence this study aimed to assess the predictors of knowledge toward current practices on malaria prevention among parents with children under five years admitted at bugando medical Center Mwanza, Tanzania.
Methodology: Analytical cross sectional study design was employed to 135 participants (sample size) of parents with children under five years admitted at BMC women with to assess predictors of knowledge toward malaria prevention. Simple random sampling technique was used to select study participants. Interviewer administered questionnaires were used. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were employed to identify knowledge and current practises on the prevention of malaria.
Results: About of study 121, (98.6%) had adequate knowledge about current practice and only 14, (10.4%) had inadequate knowledge toward malaria prevention practice.
Conclusion: Health education at community level and one-to one advice for parents in health institutions and behaviour change communications intervention strategies, which would support weaning practices, should be introduced in parents to bridge the gap between knowledge and practices so as to improve appropriate malaria prevention practice.
