Abstract

Background: Physical activity in health care is effective at getting individuals active as they age. Despite knowing the benefits of physical activities for health and wellbeing, various studies show that the levels of physical activity among young adults is low. Therefore, this study aims to determine the physical activity pattern among female university students at CUHAS.

Methodology: This was a cross-section study that was conducted among female university students at CUHAS. Total of 384 patients were enrolled in the study. Data was collected using Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) and data was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Ethical clearance was obtained from Research and ethics committee at the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences.

Results: The sample size included 384 women with the mean age of 23 years. The overall distribution of physical activities showed 129(33.6%) were highly active, 158(41.1%) were active and 97(25.2%) were inactive among all participants.

Conclusion: Majority of female students were active and showed a significant participation in physical activities. There is a need to promote health education on physical activities and its impacts to promote good health for university students.
