Proportion of viral load suppression and associated factors among patients receiving antiretroviral therapy at Bugando Medical Centre, Mwanza, Tanzania - Mwanza, Tanzania : Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences [CUHAS - Bugando] : ©29.09.2020 - viii; 37 Pages Includes References and Appendices
Abstract:
Background: Despite the fact that large number of PLHV are on ART, we still have limited information about virological suppression and its determinants among HIV infected individuals who are on ART. The study estimated proportion of viral suppression and identified factors associated with virological suppression.
Methodology: The study was cross-sectional based conducted at BMC CTC from June to July….., 373 participants were enrolled. Information was obtained by using interview and structured data collection used tool (checklist). Virological suppression was defined as having <1000 RNA copies/ml. Chi-square was used to identify factors associated with viral load suppression.
Result and Discussion: Of 373 participants enrolled in the study (335) 90% of the participants were virological suppressed, virological suppression was associated by adherence (p-value <0.01), WHO clinical stage (p-value <0.01) age (p-value 0.026), changes in treatment regimen for the past 18 months (p-value 0.015), marital status (p-value 0.022) and residence (0.029).
Conclusion: Adherence, age, WHO clinical stage, changes in treatment regimen for the past 18 months, marital status and residence were associated with viral load suppression. I recommend close follow up and enhanced adherence support.
