Abstract:
Background: Asthma is condition in which the airways narrow, swell and produce more mucus as a result in difficulty in breathing and wheezing sound. The inhalational technique is seen to be preferred since produce faster onset of action and minimal side effect on comparison to oral therapy. Poor technique of inhalational device results to reduced action of therapy and increase emergency therapy requirement and worsening the condition.
Methodology: Non participatory observation was used, participants were given an empty metered dose inhaler or whenever necessary were asked to use their inhaler (MDI) and asked to demonstrate how to use. By using suggested checklist of MDI they were marked as right or wrong practice through steps in the checklist.
Results and Discussion: Among the participants observed having different age, education level, therapy regimen and of either sex, 83.1% of were poor inhalation users this was seen to be contributed by education level especially illiterate rate, developed age and lack of enough instruction on use.
Conclusion and Recommendation: Lack of good interaction between the patient and health care provider contribute in high extent the improper use of MDI. Pharmacists and all health care professionals concern should have enough time to instruct in detail their client on how to use their inhaler, either the information packaging should be written in simple and understandable languages.
